Who will be the next Captain of Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings or Kings X1 Punjab known earlier has been an IPL franchise since its inception. Punjab has been a prominent team member of this grand league known as IPL. Punjab has been hit and miss team throughout their ipl journey. In the inaugural edition of the league, this team reached the knockouts but couldn’t lift the trophy. Punjab's best performance came in the 2014 season when they reached the IPL finals riding a Maxwell storm. That season Punjab was unstoppable owing to the captaincy of George Bailey and Glen Maxwell terrific form.

Since the 2014 season, everything has gone downhill for Punjab. They have been reduced to the bottom table team. Punjab in 2018 tried to reset their luck then went out all clean in an auction without retaining anyone to build in the brand new team. Since that strategy, 4 years have passed but Punjab hasn’t been able to qualify for the playoffs. They tried R Ashwin as their captain that didn’t work so they made KL Rahul their new captain from the 2019 season onwards. Rahul's individual performance was good he even got shot at the Indian team at expense of Punjab. But Punjab didn’t do great as a team. They still remained a bottom-table team.

Now for this mega auction, Punjab Kings are again going big. They have the largest purse among all 10 teams. They have only retained 2 players: Mayank Agarwal for 12cr and Arsdeep Singh for 4cr. When Rahul left and Mayank was retained by Punjab everyone thought Mayank will be the new captain for Punjab Kings.

But now according to the latest reports from many sources , Punjab Kings haven’t officially named Mayank Agarwal their new captain and now they are double minds regarding his captaincy. Punjab Kings will go into IPL auction without proper captain and might look for captain into this upcoming auction. Now, who can they target for that captaincy role 1st major name comes is Shreyas Iyer. Considering Punjab's biggest purse of around 72 crores they might go big behind Iyer. Other candidates that Punjab look for Captaincy role are Shikhar Dhawan, Ishan Kishan from the Indian perspective and players like Steve Smith, Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Eoin Morgan from an overseas perspective.

It would be interesting to see after the auction when Punjab got their full team who they pick as their captain or will they then officially announce Mayank Agarwal as their new captain.
