So yesterday was D- Day. Mega Auction was finally conducted in Bangalore. Day 1 of the auction was full of excitement and crazy. Total 100 players went under the hammer. There are a lot of surprises. The auction started with the Marquee set and then went along.
The auction started with Marquee set with the first name being R Ashwin, the bidding went on for a bit for Ashwin. Finally, Rajasthan Royals brought him for something above 6cr. Then came the name of David Warner everyone expected him to go big but for surprise, he went for just 6.75cr to Delhi Capitals. Then came the name of Shreyas Iyer and the franchise went crazy after him. The unexpected move was Delhi going after Shreyas after all that fiasco with him. Finally, Shreyas Iyer went to Kolkata Knight Riders for 12.75cr. Kolkata also got the Australian Test match captain for half price they got him for last year. Auction slowly got pace and franchise got into the groom.
But then most unfortunate incident, the IPL auctioneer fainted and collapsed from the stage. The auction was halted for almost 1.5 hours due to a medical emergency. Auctioneer was given the rest and Mr.Charu Sharma was called in as the temporary auctioneer for the day.
The auction resumed at 3.45 pm and Hasaranga become the richest Sri Lankan in the auction as he was bagged for 10.75cr by RCB. Then came the most expensive buy of the auction, Ishan Kishan was bagged by Mumbai Indians for 15.25cr and become the most expensive wicket- keeper.
The auction went on till 9 pm and many players were sold. Shocker of the auction was Mr. IPL Suresh Raina going unsold. Steve Smith too was unsold. All in all, this first day of auction will bring us all excitement and thrill while some nervous hours for players.
