Finally West Indies tour of India started yesterday with 1st ODI being played at Shree Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad. Only disappointing factor was the match was played behind close doors without spectators. Before series could have even started team India was rattled by covid 19 as many of its players were covid positive. Substitutes were added to the squad but some of them were still serving their quarantine period. Overall you can say India was light handed while visiting Windies had full strength squad.
The match started with India new limited overs skipper Rohit Sharma winning the toss. India invited the visiting to bat as they knew balling 2nd under lights with dew coming in would be difficult. Match started with Shai Hope hitting some boundaries to Siraj but soon he got his comeback by rattling his stumps. Small patronship started to grow between no.2 and no.3. Rohit Sharma soon brought on Washington Sundar and ties turned into India favour. Sundar got 2 wickets in one over. Sundar broke the back of West Indies. Brooks and Nicholas Pooran got small partnership. As that partnership started blossoming Yuzendra Chahal was brought on and again 2 wickets fall in one over. Pooran was dismissed then West Indies captain Pollard was dismissed on first ball by Chahal. Soon when Pollard was out , Windies started to collapse. It was for late when Holder and Allen got patronship going.
Holder and Allen put up 75 runs stand. Holder brought up his 50 and was looking good. But then once Allen was gone it was matter of minutes and soon West Indies were all-out at mere score of 176.
India had target of 177 to chase down in 50 overs. It looked pretty simple from start but then came Rohit Sharma show the Indian white ball captain resumed his normal business as if he was batting since ages. Rohit was just magnificent. While Rohit partner Ishan Kishan started slow and it was his first ODI as an makeshift opener. Rohit scored excellent 50+ but unfortunately got out. Then comes King Kohli a lot said about him how will he play under different captain and what not. Virat innings was cameo where took on short ball tactics by Windies but eventually felt for it. Pant came out to bat alongside Ishan and duo started to play. Then came unfortunate incident of runout where Pant was felt strangling. Soon Kishan too was dismissed and it looked like West Indies might slight chance to pull the game. But debutant Deepak Hooda and every cool Suryakumar Yadav got partnership going and took India home safely. Thus India won the match by 6 wickets.
