After India won the 1st ODI on Sunday, everyone expected a fightback from West Indies in the second ODI. Indies had pointed to prove in this match. West Indies had all to play for in this match, for them the series was at stake.
The second ODI started with a major blow to the West Indies as their captain Kieron Pollard was injured and was ruled out of the match. Nicholas Pooran was the stand-in captain for this match. For India it was good news considering all the covid fiasco which happened in their camp, KL Rahul returned to the squad after his leave, and also Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad tested negative for covid and were allowed to join the squad.
Match started with West Indies the toss and opting to field first, which means Indians were once who was going to bat first. Both teams have one change from the last match playing11. Another surprise that fans got to witness yesterday was Rishabh Pant opening the batting along with Rohit Sharma. West Indies dominated the start and India 40 for 3 in the first 10 overs. Rohit Virat and Pant were gone.
Now it was up to KL Rahul who we can confirm as India's new no.4 in ODI cricket and Suryakumar Yadav to stabilize the Indian Innings. Both Rahul and SKY put up a good partnership heading India towards a decent total. But the then unfortunate incident of bizarre run out. In 30th over Rahul hit shot and called for 2 runs but while coming back for the second run he stopped in the middle of the run his partner had already crossed the halfway line so Rahul continued but was well short of his crease. After Rahul Sundar and Surya continued, Surya brought his 50. But soon these 2 were too dismissed. Deepak Hooda along with tailenders managed to get some runs but India was eventually rolled out for 237 in their 50 overs.
With a target of 238, this was the best chance for West Indies to win the match and level the series 1-1. Indies had a decent opening stand. But soon West Indies inning started to crumble. Indies lost wickets in quick succession which derailed their innings. India found a new hero in the bowling department. It was Prasidh Krishna the bowler from KKR. Prasidh had a dream day. His figures were 10 overs 35 runs and 4 wickets. West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals which meant they were bowled out for 196.
The final result of the match was India won by 44 runs in spite of scoring only 230+ runs.
Thus India has now taken an inaccessible lead in the series by 2-0. With only one game remaining India will have the luxury of experimenting and giving a few fragile players a chance in the team. Thus to know more on IND vs WI 2022 Live Score follow us.
