India and Sri Lanka playing a 2 match Test Series. The First Test was played at Mohali , Punjab. The Indian team has got better overall in test cricket since their disappointing loss in the series against South Africa in South Africa.
Virat Kohli has left the test captaincy and Rohit Sharma has become India's new Full time skipper. This will be Rohit's first match as a Test Captain for Team India. The Senior Players as the likes of Rahane , Pujara , Saha and Ishant Sharma have been excluded from the squad and young talent as the likes of Shreyas Iyer , Shubham Gill , Priyank Panchal have been given their chance to prove themselves. The Sri Lankan meanwhile saw some old players return , Surami Lakmal , Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal.
This Test match was special for India as it was their former Skipper Virat Kohli 100th Test Match. Virat was felicitated before the match. India won the toss and chose to bat first.
The Indian openers batted with caution and had a good opening partnership but later both were dismissed. India new No.3 in absence of Pujara Vihari and Virat Kohli in his 100th Test match put on a decent partnership. Vihiari went to score his 50 while Virat was bowled on 45.Which meant fans agonisingly waited for his 71st hundred. Then came Rishabh Pant show , the left hander along with Shreyas Iyer got India past 250.
Soon Shreyas too got out then Pant and Jadeja continued. Pant was again out in nervous 90 as he dismissed on 96 while defending a bowl. 1st Day ended with India putting on 357/6.
The second day (today) started with Ashwin and Jadeja piling on more runs for Sri Lankan . The dashing left hander reached his century while Ravi Ashwin brought up another fifty. Jadeja went to get almost 200 but India decided to finally declare an hour of Tea mark on Day 2. India declared their innings for 574/8.
After Tea came the Sri Lankan team to bat on , they too had a decent opening stand. Sri Lankan batsmen all had starts but nobody out of top 4 was able to convert that start into a big score. By the end of Day play Sri Lanka was 108/4 some 465 runs behind India first innings score. What do you think will the match get over 3 itself or will Sri Lanka be able to stretch the game long enough.
